Whats up with some of the shoddy workmanship done in Thailand..??

For example:

At the apartment building where i stay in Bangkok there are so called 'engineers' that are supposed to keep things in working order.
Such as airconditioners, waterheater in the shower, keeping sure that the internet and cable-tv is working etc.

Yeah right... I had some problem with my cable-tv reception the other day and called down to the reception to report the problem..

-Ok the lady said, i will send the engineer up to you within one hour..
Two hours later he came.. after about 5 minutes he was done, the picture was acceptable, but the way he fixed the problem was everything but acceptable.. :(

He used scotch tape to stretch and tape-up the antenna cable in a way that can you can see in the picture above.. :0  he looked proud of his 'workmanship' and told my girlfriend in Thai to keep it that way and it will work ok..

He did not open up the socket in the wall to check that the connectivity was ok with the main cable that comes down from the satellite dish at all..!!

I was totally baffled, and with my poor Thai language skills, plus that i was starting to get a bit upset with him that he didn't do a proper check, made me just accept it and sent him on his way.. 'no tip'..

(I didn't want to get in a argument that would make both him and me 'loose face' maybe i need his service later on) God help me..

At a later day relative to my girlfriend will come and check it properly, he works at a cable company in Ayutthaya (hopefully he has more skill than this so called engineer at my building)!
